Since when and why do you participate as an author in our HOsiHO collection?
What do you like about creating aerial images?
|
Where are you from ? How did you come to drone? I'm from Montpellier, France, and I come from the world of music (pianist and composer), but I have always been passionate about images. For me, these two universes are similar, and use a common vocabulary. I have always been passionate about everything that flies. So I was naturally immediately passionate (the word is weak!) by the drone when it starts to be popular.
|
Do you have a background in audiovisual creation ?
Yes, I have been a photographer and videographer for many years. And as a musician, I worked (and still today) many times in the image field (video games, theater, slideshows ...)
For you, a drone is ...?
... an eye that flies!
Do you shoot aerial shots differently? Did you do it before? With what vectors and for how long?
I have tried just about every aircraft for pleasure, therefore, I often shoot from the sky.

Do you consider yourself today as a passionate "stock-shooter"?
I can not imagine working in areas that do not interest me. So I am a passionate stock-shooter, yes. I have at heart to share beautiful images, taken above all with the heart. |
Tell us how you organize a day of aerial shooting ?
We must first make the mandatory steps (protocol with an airport, declaration to the prefecture according to the scenario).
Then, depending on the project, a tracking may be necessary, either on site or via the Internet (Google maps, sites ...), to be aware of possible constraints, but also to get an idea of what already exists in term of images.
The hardware must of course be checked, applications updated to avoid being downloaded and updated on site in front of the customer (yes, it happened to me ... once but not two), the batteries loaded ...
The preliminary brief with the client is important, it will be the moment to obtain information that he did not think to give before and that could be blocking ("Oh yes, you have to turn at 22h ... ").
And on the spot, I have at heart to do what is planned, but I try to keep the eye and the mind open to original shots, even improbable, which could bring a new dynamic to the project.
How did you get the idea of creating images to sell the rights? Do you think this is a lucrative business in the long term?
A few years ago, I was selling photos on specialized sites. But the conditions (financial and sales volume) were not very rewarding compared to the work that it required. When I met Sami and explained to me the philosophy of the Hosiho agency, I identified myself with this approach. And I believe that this activity can be lucrative, in addition to the pleasure of working in these conditions. It takes time, to feed the database, to become known. But I believe that the professionalism that characterizes all contributors will pay off.
Your online portfolio is impressive ! How long did it take to build it ?
I have been feeding it for about 3 years. When I go on a different project (classic shooting, photos "on the ground", travel ...), I always have a drone with me, and I always have in mind the search for places that could allow me to realize beautiful pictures. When I'm on a hike, it's not uncommon for me to force my friends to stop for a flight, even in less than ideal conditions (wind, cold ...)! I also organize a day especially to feed my database.
What are your next shooting projects and trips ?
Numerous ! I would like to tour the main Cathar castles, make virtual tours from above to propose another format, make a collection on Montpellier where I live, go to Portugal, northern Europe ...
A conclusion?
Already, and not to mention the financial aspect, I have great pleasure in interacting with the other members of the HOsiHO Drone Network of which I am part. We can bring each others ideas, solutions, sharing experiences ... that save us a lot of time and know-how.
I think that the aerial image has a bright future, just to see all the areas in which it is used today. And the evolution of technology promises us beautiful moments of pleasure.
Thank you Rémi for your straight answers and thoughts!
